5,000 electric vehicle chargers to roll out across Essex

Millions of pounds in government funding will significantly expand local charging infrastructure.

More than 5,000 electric vehicle charging sockets will be installed across Essex with millions of pounds awarded in government funding.

Essex County Council will receive £8.3 million from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund to complete installations in different locations over the coming months.

First residential electric vehicle chargers installed in Essex

More than £200,000 of government funding is being used to install the chargers in the county.

The first residential electric vehicle chargers in Essex have now been installed.

The chargers, which are located on Moulsham Street in Chelmsford and Wimpole Road in Colchester, are the first of 66 for the county. Further points will be installed over the next six months.

They have been funded by £236,000 from the Government’s residential charge point scheme.

New woodland habitat created in Chelmsford

A woodland habitat has been created in Chelmsford as the Essex Forest Initiative surpasses its five-year goal.

Volunteers have helped plant 1,000 new willow, alder and oak trees just outside Chelmsford City Centre over two days.

The trees were provided by the Essex Forest Initiative, which launched in 2019 when Essex County Council committed to plant £1 million worth of trees over five years. The original target was 375,000 trees covering over 150 hectares – equivalent to 210 football pitches.
