Exciting new measures to make it easier for residents to walk or cycle have been given the green light today following a decision by Essex County Council.

The new schemes are all part of ECC’s ambition for Essex to become safer, greener and healthier by making it easier and safer for residents to walk or cycle, reducing traffic congestion, cutting air pollution and improving residents’ physical and mental wellbeing.

“Love it Here, Don’t Leave it Here” – litter-picking equipment now available for residents to borrow in Essex

Essex County Council (ECC) — in collaboration with district, borough and city councils —has launched a new countywide campaign to tackle litter in parks, green spaces and high streets.

The “Love it Here, Don’t Leave it Here” campaign will encourage residents to dispose of litter correctly, or take rubbish home with them.   

Residents can now borrow litter-picking equipment for free from their local council, library or country park. Residents can also borrow equipment from local sports clubs, thanks to funding from Active Essex’s ‘Find Your Active’ campaign and Love Essex.

Green skills review to lay foundations for a greener Essex economy

The Essex Energy Switch is a county wide collective energy switching campaign, organised by Essex County Council, to help county residents take the hassle out of searching for deals.

Residents can register for the Essex Energy Switch until 12 October. Registration for the Essex Energy Switch is free and only takes five minutes.

Essex Forest Initiative secures £300k for trees

Efforts from the Essex Forest Initiative have recently been given a significant boost, thanks to the Forestry Commission, with the award of £300k funding for trees.

The Local Authority Treescape Fund is grant funding from the Forestry Commission to support tree planting outside of woodlands. It focusses on settings such as hedgerows, parklands, urban areas, riverbanks, roads and footpaths.

The Minister of State for Media and Data in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has visited a primary school in Essex to see how the school is inspiring its young people to take action to safeguard the planet from the effects of climate change.

The Rt Hon John Whittingdale OBE MP made the trip to Danbury Park Community Primary School on 9 July to mark the announcement of Net Zero: Making Essex Carbon Neutral, an online event on 20 July to launch the Essex Climate Action Commission’s report and recommendations for tackling climate change in the county.
