We have an exciting NEW opportunity for young people across Essex looking to get involved in climate initiatives and get professional experience with Essex County Council.

On 17 February, we’re inviting young people to join a collaborative workshop to help shape the NEW Young Person’s Advice Pack. Running from 11:00am to 3:00pm, the session will bring together young people who care about climate and the environment to share ideas, insights, and any materials they feel should be included. It’s a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government - and it’s the kind of practical involvement that stands out on a CV.

To find out more, sign up to our online introductory webinar on Tuesday 13 January.

What is ESCAN?

Essex Schools’ Climate Action Network (ESCAN) is a network of students and teachers championing climate action across Essex. The network’s primary focus is to get young people involved with climate action. The goal is to have student ESCAN ambassadors representing each school, college and sixth form in Essex.

ESCAN ambassadors will have the opportunity to meet other students passionate about climate action and share exciting new ideas. Ambassadors will inspire and get inspired by other young people across Essex. There is no limit to the number of students who can be ambassadors. New ambassadors are welcome to join throughout the academic year.

The Network aims to meet every half term. Meetings take place online and give ambassadors the chance to discuss ideas of best practice with their peers. They are an opportunity to organise climate action projects and activities. There will also be guest speakers who are experts in climate action and the environment.

The ESCAN virtual launch event took place on Monday 16 September 2024. You can watch a recording of the launch event on YouTube, including the keynote speech by Lord Zac Goldsmith.

The network is supported by Essex County Council and the Essex Climate Action Commission.
