The Essex Climate Action Commission and Essex County Council seek a passionate Communications Assistant to join the Environment and Climate Action communications team on a 24-month fixed-term contract.
About the Role
As a Communications Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in communicating climate change initiatives to the public, stakeholders and partners across Essex. You'll support our mission to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve air quality, reduce waste and help to increase green infrastructure and biodiversity throughout the county.
Location: Chelmsford
Working Style: Anywhere worker
Salary: £23,344 to £25,679 per annum
Hours: Full-time
Contract: 24-month fixed term/secondment opportunity
Key Responsibilities
- Support the creation of engaging content for newsletters, social media and the Commission's website
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations for key target audiences
- Support and attend virtual and in-person events, including some evenings and weekends
- Help draft articles and press releases to raise awareness about climate action
- Develop photography and videography content for social media channels
- Support the Essex Schools' Climate Action Network
- Assist with bid writing for climate-related funding opportunities
- Help respond to public enquiries and stakeholder questions
What We're Looking For
- Education to at least A-level standard with a qualification in marketing, communications, digital and social media or an environmental or politics-related field (or equivalent experience)
- Carbon literacy accredited
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software like Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with social media management platforms such as Hootsuite
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Knowledge of and interest in climate change and environmental issues
