We are recruiting!
Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission is an independent, evolving organisation that will develop over the next few months. We are currently recruiting for a Chair - applications for Commissioners have now closed.
Apply to be Chair
We are seeking to appoint a Chair for the Commission, an individual with a proven track record in leadership who can demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the climate emergency and the potential responses to it within the region. In line with the Commission’s objectives, they should have a good understanding of climate resilience and adaptation, of carbon emissions and mitigation, of the importance of integrated nature-based solutions and of the need for a just and inclusive transition.
The Chair will need to be a fair and robust facilitator as the Commission will convene conversations between many people with strong and potentially differing views. The Chair therefore needs to be skilled at enabling inclusive, collaborative discussions and securing agreement on direction, action and outputs. Whilst making sure that different voices are heard, they will need to ensure that the Commission is action-oriented and that it has a tangible impact on climate action across the region.
The Chair will be asked to work with the Vice-Chairs and the Director/Secretariat to convene quarterly meetings and public engagement events. They may also be asked to lead sessions at other events (such as a proposed regional climate summit), either as a presenter or a facilitator of Q&A sessions so it is important to be able to demonstrate an ability to an engage with a wider audience. The role is high profile, and whilst media engagement is most likely to be led by the political Vice Chairs, the Chair will need to be able to interact effectively with the media.
