Essex businesses receive up to £25,000 worth of support to grow their offshore renewable energy services.

Three Essex SMEs have been selected to take part in an award-winning technology acceleration programme.

The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s Launch Academy supports innovative businesses in the offshore wind industry.

The latest Launch Academy programme is the first in the East of England. It recognises the region as one of the UK’s largest offshore renewable energy hubs.

Nine businesses are taking part in the first East of England cohort. Three of these are from Essex. These are: Front Technologies Ltd (Loughton), Mission Zero (Ingatestone) and Haven Dredging Ltd (Harwich).

Participants recently celebrated the half-way point of the programme. Launch Academy provides tailored support to grow the small businesses taking part. This includes guidance from in-house experts and external delivery partners.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Planning a Growing Economy, said: “Growing our small businesses is essential for a strong economy. The offshore renewables industry will also be critical for a net-zero Essex.

“It is a huge achievement for Essex SMEs to be embarking on this innovative programme. They have already enhanced their practical and technical expertise, and I look forward to seeing further progress over the coming months.”

Imogen Stevenson, East of England Innovation Manager at ORE Catapult, added: “The East of England is truly a fantastic place to do business in the offshore renewable industry. The nine businesses involved in the programme reflect the vibrancy of the region.

“Whilst the programme is led by ORE Catapult, it is made a success by our regional partners. This ongoing collaborative approach enables us to offer truly tailored and innovative support.

“Support will continue until the end of 2023, when we look forward to sharing final outcomes from the programme.”
